Job summary

STEEL TOOL & ENGINEERING CO. in Michigan seeks an experienced CNC Machinist to perform end‑to‑end setups on horizontal lathes, VTLs, mills, and 5‑axis machines. You will program with Mastercam, edit G‑code, read GD&T, and validate against CMM data to ensure tight aerospace tolerances. Mentoring needs and safety come first.

Experience with aerospace materials and sheet metal components is preferred; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; strong problem‑solving and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong CNC setup/operation skills and in‑process adjustment capability.
• Mastery of Mastercam programming plus working knowledge of G‑code.
• Metrology skills: micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges.
• Experience with aerospace materials and sheet metal components.
• Mechanical aptitude, sound judgment, and problem‑solving ability.
• Capacity to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
• Clear communication and a desire to mentor others.
• Dedication to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• End‑to‑end setups and production on CNC horizontal lathes, VTLs, mills, and 5‑axis machines.
• Programming and edits in Mastercam; optimizing and correcting at the control.
• Loading material, setting work/tool offsets, verifying parameters, and executing operations to spec.
• Identifying non‑conformances and driving corrective actions to root cause.
• Reading complex blueprints and GD&T; interpreting CMM data and applying tool wear offsets.
• Fabricating tooling, fixtures, and custom chuck jaws to support repeatable quality.
• Maintaining tight aerospace tolerances and documenting results.
• Performing routine maintenance and 5S‑level housekeeping.
• Partnering with supervisors; mentoring junior operators; hitting safety, quality, and productivity targets.
• Exhibiting consistent attendance and reliability.

Worksites: Trenton, MI and Taylor, MI | Status: Full-time, Hourly

Pay: $19.25–$24.00 per hour DOE | Shifts: 6:00 am–4:30 pm; 12:00 pm–10:30 pm; 3:30 am–2:00 am with $1.00/hr night premium
