Job summary

Northumberland Ferries Limited in Wood Islands, PE, is seeking a dedicated 4th Class Engineer for full-time, year-round service on our vessels. The role focuses on safe operation, preventive maintenance, and timely repairs of marine machinery during an active May–December sailing season and the off-season overhaul.

Reporting to the Engineer of the Watch, you will maintain logs, follow CMS guidelines, and work with the crew to ensure dependable service between Wood Islands and Caribou.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid 4th Class Engineer Certificate of Competency.
  • Must hold a valid Seafarers Medical Certificate and other CoC-related requirements.
  • Knowledge of critical operations and CMS documentation is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven track record of safe operations and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, inspections and overhaul of machinery as directed by the Chief/Second Engineer.
  • Take watches in Engine Room or C.R. as assigned.
  • Maintain and update maintenance system logs and records.
  • Ensure compliance with pollution regulations and safety procedures.
  • Supervise and assist Oilers on watch as required.
  • Follow company policies including safety and harassment policies.
