POSITION TITLE: 49% Title I Elementary School Literacy Interventionist

LOCATION: Dames Ferry Elementary

REPORTS TO: Principal of School

Effective Date: 2026-2027 School Year to begin October 2026

Position Purpose

The purpose of this position is to provide targeted, evidence-based literacy intervention and support to students who require additional instruction beyond the regular classroom setting. The Literacy Interventionist works collaboratively with classroom teachers to identify and address individual student needs, strengthen foundational literacy skills, develop comprehension strategies, and promote students' overall academic growth and reading proficiency.

  • Consult frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to literacy instruction using designated progress-monitoring instrument as a base.
  • Design interventions and write lesson plans detailing methods and materials.
  • Assist in the evaluation of ongoing programs and make recommendations for change.
  • Assist teachers and other administrators in implementing the school literacy program.
  • Help teachers diagnose literacy strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials.
  • Keep the parents informed as to the purposes and progress of the literacy program.
  • Work with support staff and school administrators to facilitate the coordination of the literacy program with the total curriculum.
  • Consult with curriculum committees studying such topics as textbook selection, vocabulary development, concept development, supplementary materials and the development of study skills.
  • Promote interest in reading.
  • Work with the classroom teacher and district personnel to coordinate literacy instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Work with the classroom teacher to monitor student progress.
  • Teach remedial reading as needed.
  • Perform other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the supervisor.
  • Familiar with the Multi-Tiered System of Supports
Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicants must be certified with a valid Georgia P-5 (ECE) teaching certificate.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
Terms of Employment

49% State salary schedule plus local supplement.

Funding Statement

This position is funded through Title I and is designed to directly impact student achievement by strengthening literacy instruction and supporting targeted interventions for students most at risk.
