Job summary

Residential Transitions, Inc. (RTI) seeks a Part-Time Mental Health Worker to provide direct support and independent living skills training in our 24-hour residential programs across Minnesota.

You will assist individuals with mental health management, coping skills, and daily living tasks while promoting independence and community integration in a home-like setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with related experience, or a Bachelor's degree.
• Ability to pass DHS background checks (DHS, BCA, and related screenings).
• Ability to organize and work independently.
• Willingness to travel within the Metro Area with a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.
• Ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
• Other duties as needed, as company and role evolve.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support and independent living skills training in 24-hour residential programs.

• Teach community integration skills such as self-managing medications, finances, interpersonal interactions, transportation, and accessing community resources.

Part-Time Mental Health Worker - Community Residential Setting

Position Overview

Mental Health Workers, operating in a Direct Support (DSP) capacity, provide direct support professional services and independent living skills training to the individuals we serve in our 24-hour residential programs. These programs serve the needs of individuals in a home setting that is managed by RTI. Our clients include those with a severe mental illness (SMI) health diagnosis and or traumatic brain injury (TBI) disability. This role reports to the Program manager and has no direct reports.

Role Responsibilities

• Support individuals in independent living skills through 1:1 service.
• Support individuals in mental health management through identifying coping skills, practicing coping skills, and alternative methods.
• Teach and model community integration skills such as self-managing medications, managing personal finances, appropriate interpersonal interactions, managing the public transportation system, completing the necessary tasks to maintain a home, and accessing community resources.
• Interacts informally with individuals to facilitate socialization and appropriate behavior.
• Participates in scheduled and spontaneous recreational events.
• Teaches healthy living habits and develops the accompanying skills.

Required Qualification and Experience

The Mental Health Worker shall be qualified under Minnesota law as follows:

• High School Diploma or GED and relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field.
• Ability to pass a Department of Human Services background check.
• Ability to pass the BCA Criminal Background Check and the Sexual Exploitation of Patients by Psychotherapist screen required by DHS.
• Ability to pass screening required by Federal Human Services office of the Inspector General
• Ability to organize and work independently.
• Willingness to travel within the Metro Area, for applicable mileage reimbursements, with a current driver’s license, clean record, and personal vehicle with insurance; and able to transport clients in that vehicle.
• Possess a person-centered approach, consistent with the Philosophical approach of the individual program and RTI
• Ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
• Other, as needed, as company and role expand or evolves.

Preferred Qualification and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences fields OR 2000 hours of supervised experience providing clinical services in mental health or children's emotional care.

Physical & Mental Requirements

Employees in this role must be able to:

• Walk, stand, sit, bend, climb stairs, use a ladder, and perform crisis prevention/intervention techniques
• Use hands for writing, typing, data entry, and medication dispensing
• Lift up to 40 lbs. and occasionally exert physical effort during duties
• Maintain vision and hearing necessary for reading charts, operating office equipment, using a computer, and driving a vehicle

Compensation

$20/hour; base pay. (Overnight shifts are compensated at the asleep rate unless the staff is scheduled for an awake shift. In that case, the rate is $18/hour or higher, depending on the client’s rate.)

Type: Part-Time

Shifts: Friday 11:30 PM - Sunday 12 AM (combination of day, evening, and overnight shifts)

Location: Dakota & HennepinCounty(mileage is reimbursed!)
