Job Description

The Fibroscan Technician provides direct patient care by performing Fibroscans. The technician will prepare reports for physician signature and billing. In addition, they perform various administrative responsibilities for the department, including scheduling/confirming Fibroscan appointments and answering phones. Incumbents will be certified by the manufacturer of the Fibroscan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Fibroscan Technician provides direct patient care by performing Fibroscans. The technician will prepare reports for physician signature and billing. In addition, they perform various administrative responsibilities for the department, including scheduling/confirming Fibroscan appointments and answering phones. Incumbents will be certified by the manufacturer of the Fibroscan. This position has a significant impact on the first impression patients and visitors experience when calling or arriving into the outpatient units. Incumbents will provide a high level of customer service by interacting with patients, visitors and staff in a professional manner that is proactive, friendly and helpful.The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. Primary Responsibilities
  • Performs Fibroscans in the clinical setting.
  • Confirms all Fibroscans in all locations in order to organize and maintain excel spreadsheet used for statistical purposes (essential)
  • Interacts professionally with both patients and Physicians in all locations. (essential)
  • Discharge patient in EMR per procedure.
  • Provides patient care and technological expertise during Fibroscan procedures, as delegated and under the direction of physicians and other licensed department staff.
  • Provides direct patient care (by performing Fibroscans, but not limited to).
  • Prepares the procedure area with all diagnostic and therapeutic supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain the condition of all equipment.
  • Determines that the procedure area is safe and that all preparations are acceptable and ready for the team to commence patient care.
  • Maintains all patient information as confidential.
  • Ensures patient privacy, respect and a professional environment for the patient.
  • Provides a high level of customer service by interacting with patients, visitors, staff in a professional manner that is proactive, friendly and helpful.
  • Assists with the transport and preparation of the patient, before and after the procedure, leaving the area to home or inpatient unit.
  • Assists with stocking and purchasing recommendations.
  • Inspects and rotates sterile supplies monthly.
  • Follows aseptic technique, separation of clean and contaminated, and infection control protocols for the proper care and handling of sterile and high-level disinfected equipment and supplies.
  • Actively participates in a positive manner as a team member in a team environment
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives, including education, department meetings, hospital programs, etc.
  • Recognizes the commitment that BID-Plymouth has to the LEAN Process Improvement method as the designated path toward continuous improvement and excellence in patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Able to pay attention to detail, follow instructions (written and verbal), retain information and apply knowledge learned through MA responsibilities and experience.
  • Knowledge of infection control, cleaning and disinfection protocols.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as an effective, valuable member of a team.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, lift, carry and push heavy objects, carts, suppliesand equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and practice proper body mechanics.
  • Ability to transport patients safely, without injury to self and others.
  • Proven communication etiquette, excellent customer service experience and positive attitude.
  • Interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
Experience/Knowledge/Skills Required
  • Registration/Certification: Medical Assistant/MA certification is required.
  • Certified in Fibro scanning by Manufacturer of equipment.
  • Basic familiarity with computers.
  • Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.
  • Education Required: Medical Assistant/MA certification is required.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years related work experience required.
  • Certified in Fibroscanning by Manufacturer of equipment (to be provided and to be completed within 45 days of hire).
Physical/Environmental Requirements

Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift. This job requires frequent sitting, walking, standing, Fine Manipulation using both hands, Keyboard use. There may be occasional bending neck, bending waist, Power Grasping using both hands. Pushing/Pulling using both hands. Reaching-below should er height. Rarely there may be Reaching-above should height.

Pay Range: $19.90 - $34.81

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms ofthe applicable collective bargainingagreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
