Job summary

University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources in Bakersfield is seeking a Community Education Specialist 2 to coordinate the 4-H Youth Development Program in Kern County. You will lead outreach, recruit volunteers, and provide training while ensuring policy compliance and effective program delivery.

The role requires strong communication, collaboration across community partners, and the ability to manage multiple program activities within a Positive Youth Development framework.

Qualifications

• Minimum associate degree or equivalent experience in personnel management, youth development, program management.
• Experience working with diverse communities respectfully and inclusively.
• Proven ability to teach and work with youth, families, volunteers, and deliver community educational programs.
• Familiarity with community-based agencies and collaboration with multiple organizations.
• Ability to interpret policies, ensure compliance, and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Oversee local 4-H YDP activities to ensure safe, accessible programs aligned with PYD principles.
• Provide training and support to volunteers, club leaders, and community partners using approved materials.
• Assist in starting new 4-H programs, chartering clubs, and processing paperwork.
• Stay updated on 4-H policies and enrollment processes; communicate changes to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with 4-H Volunteer Management Organizations and committees; attend meetings as needed.
• Disseminate 4-H information via the website, emails, social media, and newsletters.
• Resolve conflicts and serve as liaison for stakeholders while ensuring compliance.
