Job description

Position Overview

Afterschool Program Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County supporting the 4‑H Afterschool Program. The role provides comprehensive 4‑H youth development opportunities for K‑12 students and may be assigned to one of the listed school districts: Beaver River, Belleville Henderson, Carthage, Copenhagen, Indian River, LaFargeville, or Watertown.

Position Details

Part‑time, 20 hours per week. Hourly rate $20.00. Comprehensive benefit package includes health, dental, retirement, vacation, sick, and personal leave.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent (GED/High School Diploma with one year of transferable experience).
  • Relevant experience for the role.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Compliance with School Age Child Care (SACC) and Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) licensing requirements (tuberculosis test, physical exam, training).
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Program Delivery, Evaluation, and Applied Research (90%)
    • Utilize established program resources and materials for 4‑H programming.
    • Teach STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) activities and other 4‑H after‑school programs.
    • Assist the After‑School Program Coordinator with lesson‑plan creation and delivery of innovative programs.
    • Support teachers during the academic study portion of the program.
    • Collaborate with school personnel to align instruction with learner needs.
    • Provide staffing or programming coverage for other 4‑H after‑school programs.
    • Participate in program evaluation, collect and interpret data, and report results.
  • Administrative Responsibilities (5%)
    • Coordinate and assist with program projects and outreach efforts.
    • Organize program materials and resources.
    • Assist with marketing and promotion through print, news, social, and multimedia channels.
    • Help complete reports required by funding sources or the Association.
    • Communicate with parents and maintain professional relationships with agencies and businesses.
    • Travel as needed to transport participants or materials.
  • Professional Improvement and Other Duties (5%)
    • Complete required trainings for SACC and OCFS licensing.
    • Develop and pursue a professional development plan with supervisor or executive director.
    • Engage in staff meetings, expense reporting, and general support of Extension programs.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and follow applicable safety policies.
