Summary
Wick Operators are responsible for operating and maintaining various wick machines. They must monitor product quality and report any deficiencies to supervision.
Role and Responsibilities
- Pull raw wick for each work order, make proper labels, and acquire appropriate sign-offs.
- Set up machine with correct dyes, speed, fans, and temperature.
- Set up wickers and fill with proper wax, wick wax, or high melt.
- Mount spools and thread wickers.
- Regularly perform preventative maintenance on all wickers.
- Responsible for daily updates and continuous tracking of individual and cumulative downtime of machines.
- Cycle count all inventory associated with wicking.
- Use Microsoft Office and Excel regularly.
- Maintain Alene standards of performance and comply with housekeeping, safety policies, and procedures.
Detailed Duties
- Set up machines and all auxiliary equipment assigned to produce wick according to blueprint, drawing, Quality Control, and Production Order requirements.
- Adjust safety equipment and maintain proper safety records.
- Understand job requirements and safety procedures.
- Record and maintain charts and readings as required by inspection sheets, manufacturing worksheets, quality control manuals, or customer requirements.
- Maintain inventory records.
- Assist, train, and instruct assigned operators; advise management of operational, quality, or safety issues.
- Keep equipment, machinery, benches, tools, gauges, and the area clean and organized.
- Perform tasks as directed by the Line Lead or supervision.
Education Required:
High school diploma or GED.
Range of Experience:
12 months related experience and/or training.
Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and understand drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Ability to work from blueprints, specifications, and verbal instructions.
- Proficiency in math.
- Ability to read, understand, and apply Quality Control procedures.
- Ability to select proper dies, tools, machinery, gauges, etc., required for setup.
- Ability to work within tolerances using micrometers, dial and vernier calipers, pi-tapes, and gauges.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail with high accuracy.
- Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to set up wick feeders, wick machines, and automatic lubricating equipment; willing to learn technical advancements and customer demands.
