Started in 1988 as an architectural sheet metal job shop, Oertel Metal Works has grown to be an expert in the custom metal fabrication industry. Oertel Metal Works is looking for a reliable, safety-minded Forklift Operator for 3rd shift at our Davenport, Iowa location.

On this shift you’ll work on your own to keep production moving overnight. Using a fork truck, you’ll deliver raw materials to operators in Paint and on the Shop Floor, working with the 3rd shift supervisor. You’ll also stage the next day’s deliveries using our GSS system, load and secure outbound loads with straps and covers, and hand off clearly to 1st shift so the day starts smoothly. Because you’ll be working independently, we need someone trustworthy, with a strong work ethic, who follows instructions and pays close attention to detail.

What you’ll do

• Deliver raw materials to operators in Paint and on the Shop Floor, working with the 3rd shift supervisor.
• Use GSS to stage materials for the next day’s deliveries.
• Read and follow the instructions for daily deliveries.
• Load trucks and assist in preparing for deliveries
• Communicate clearly with 1st shift and the drivers so nothing gets missed at shift change.

Training

You’ll get two weeks of hands‑on training before working on your own: one week staging deliveries with one of our drivers, and one week learning material handling with our experienced team.

What makes you successful in this position?

• Previous fork truck experience preferred, or the ability to learn and safely operate a fork truck.
• You enjoy working in a warehouse and outdoors in a physical role. You’ll be on your feet and moving throughout the day, and you may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• You’re comfortable working on your own and staying productive without direct supervision.
• You’re a team player who wants to be part of a successful, hard‑working team.
• You’re organized and notice the small details of your work.
• You’re comfortable learning computer systems (GSS) to look up and stage orders.
• You have a valid driver’s license.
• You can pass a pre‑employment physical and drug screen.

This position works Sunday to Thursday from 9:30pm to 6:00am each day, with the option for overtime. Pay is commensurate with experience.
