Job summary

Vermeer in Pella, IA is seeking a detail-oriented Painter I to transform raw iron into Vermeer yellow by applying primer, pre-finish, and finish coats to machines and manufactured parts. Qualifications

• Entry-level painting experience or completion of a painting/coatings program preferred.
• Ability to learn and perform hands-on spray application using HVLP and/or electrostatic systems.
• Readiness to measure coating quality using WFT and DFT gauges; apply visual standards.
• Strong habits in surface preparation per print and SOP to ensure adhesion and edge quality.

Responsibilities

• Apply primer and topcoat to treated metal parts, adjusting paints to meet quality standards.
• Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, degreasing, scuffing, and masking per SOP.
• Operate and maintain paint-line equipment; perform routine PM and safe changeovers.
• Mix and adjust coatings by weight/volume; monitor viscosity and pot life.
• Measure coating quality using WFT/DFT gauges and document records as applicable.
• Inspect parts during painting; repair defects and communicate issues quickly.
• Perform tasks requiring standing, bending, lifting; follow EHS and PPE procedures.
