The position requires basic math, English communication, and proficiency with Word, Excel, and reporting systems. Candidates should be willing to work rotating shifts and comply with all EHS policies.

Qualifications

Job Description Summary

The Feed Mill Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate operation of feed mill equipment used in the production of high-quality feed products. This position ensures production schedules, quality standards, biosecurity requirements, food safety regulations, and preventive maintenance practices are met. The Feed Mill Operator works closely with production, quality assurance, and maintenance personnel to support continuous operations while maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate feed mill equipment including receiving, batching, grinding, mixing, pelleting, and loadout systems.
• Monitor equipment performance and make routine operating adjustments to maintain product quality and production efficiency.
• Complete production schedules accurately while meeting established quality and safety standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout the feed mill in accordance with company, FDA, and food safety requirements.
• Complete production, inventory, and FDA-required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Follow all biosecurity protocols and company policies to protect livestock health and product integrity.
• Perform daily ingredient and finished feed inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
• Collect and maintain feed and ingredient samples in accordance with ISO and company quality assurance procedures.
• Obtain and document Crossville truck samples and other required quality control samples.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment and promptly report mechanical issues.
• Participate in scheduled plant fumigation and pest control activities.
• Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move ingredients and finished products.
• Follow all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies, including proper lockout/tagout procedures and use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Assist with troubleshooting operational issues to minimize downtime and improve production efficiency.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous feed mill, grain handling, manufacturing, or industrial production experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of business English and mathematics.
• Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word, Excel, and production reporting systems.
• Ability to accurately maintain production records and documentation.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and supervisors.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform work accurately and efficiently.
• Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills preferred.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays as business needs require.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work at heights.
• Ability to work in dusty, noisy, hot, cold, and humid environments.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when necessary.
