Job summary

Daifuku is seeking a Fabricator for our 3rd shift in Hobart, IN. You will operate fabrication machinery to cut, shape, and bend metal parts for industrial automation and read blueprints to ensure accuracy. Responsibilities include setting up machines, measuring dimensions, and inspecting finished pieces.

Must read exact measurements on a tape and read blueprints; LOTO and crane certifications required. Qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of related experience

Qualifications

  • Reading blueprints and precise measurements is essential.
  • Ability to read tape measures and scale/blueprints accurately.
  • LOTO and crane certifications are required; forklift experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate fabrication shop and machine shop machinery to cut, shape, and bend metal.
  • Read job specs and blueprints to set machine adjustments and material needs.
  • Set stops and guides to specified lengths and align layouts for accuracy.
  • Position workpieces against stops and verify with layout marks.
  • Inspect workpieces for defects and machine performance.

Position Summary

The Fabricator operates fabricating machines to create structural steel products used in industrial automation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to
  • Operating fabrication shop and machine shop machinery and equipment, such as cutoff saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines, and punches, to cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures
  • Reading job specifications and blueprints to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • Setting stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template
  • Positioning workpiece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade
  • Measures workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation
  • Detects workpiece defects and machine malfunctions
  • Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, and scale from workpiece
  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, die, or workpieces
  • Employees are responsible for complying with all requirements of Daifuku’s QMS policies and procedures.
  • Employees are to ensure sustainable process outputs that drive continuous improvement to provide leading industry performance and exceptional customer satisfaction.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Knowledge of standard and metric measurements
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and self-inspection techniques
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented
  • Team orientation
  • LOTO certification required
  • Crane operation certification required
  • Forklift operation experience preferred but not required
  • Availability to work on Saturdays as needed
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
ADA Requirements
  • Medium work Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Reaching Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Pushing Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Grasping Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Hearing Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Visual The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

  • The worker is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
