Job Title: 3rd Shift Maintenance Technician Job Description

The 3rd Shift Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring peak performance and reliability of industrial machinery in a 24/7 plastics production environment. You will begin with approximately six weeks on day shift for hands‑on training and then transition to a rotating 12‑hour night schedule (6:00 p.m. 6:00 a.m.). In this role, you perform mechanical repairs, electrical troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on plastic extrusion lines and high‑speed perforation‑on‑roll equipment to minimize unplanned downtime and keep production running safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance by working through established PM schedules to prevent unplanned production halts and ensure continuous operation.
  • Monitor, inspect, and service pneumatic and hydraulic components to maintain optimal performance and reliability.
  • Refurbish and replace worn mechanical parts such as rollers, bearings, and drive belts to reduce equipment failures.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on extrusion lines, including screw and barrel assemblies, gearboxes, and motors.
  • Maintain and repair perf‑on‑roll machinery, including precision blades, tension control systems, and high‑speed winders, to support accurate perforation and consistent roll quality.
  • Calibrate and maintain heating systems by managing thermocouples, heat zones, and cooling units to ensure proper processing temperatures.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and controls.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to PLC‑controlled equipment to restore functionality and improve machine performance.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by proactively identifying potential equipment issues and recommending maintenance or upgrades.
  • Work safely and efficiently on the production floor, following all safety procedures while performing tasks at heights, in tight spaces, and with heavy components.
  • Collaborate with production and maintenance team members to coordinate repairs and maintenance activities that minimize impact on operations.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong expertise in mechanical power transmission systems, including gears, belts, chains, and related components.
  • Proficiency with pneumatics, including valves, actuators, and air distribution systems.
  • Ability to perform machine repair on complex industrial equipment, including extrusion lines and related machinery.
  • Experience maintaining and executing preventative maintenance schedules on production equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues using schematics and diagnostic tools.
  • Experience working with PLC‑controlled equipment and performing basic PLC‑related troubleshooting.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds safely as part of routine maintenance tasks.
  • Comfort working at heights and in tight or confined spaces when required by the job.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to equipment reliability and safety.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Direct experience with extrusion or plastic processing machinery is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of perforation patterns and bag‑making equipment used in high‑speed production environments.
  • Welding and fabrication skills, including TIG and MIG welding, for repair and modification of equipment and components.
  • Familiarity with high‑speed perforation‑on‑roll equipment, tension controls, and winding systems.
  • Experience working in facilities that produce products for medical or pharmaceutical applications, with associated quality standards.
Why Work Here?

You join a production environment where equipment reliability and technical expertise are highly valued, and your work directly supports high‑quality output for critical end uses such as medical and pharmaceutical applications. The role offers structured training on day shift before transitioning to a stable rotating night schedule, providing clear expectations and consistency in your work routine. You work with advanced extrusion and high‑speed processing equipment, giving you the opportunity to deepen your skills in complex industrial maintenance and grow your technical capabilities. The organization emphasizes safety, continuous operation, and quality, creating a setting where skilled maintenance professionals can take pride in their impact and develop their careers in a modern manufacturing facility.

The role follows a rotating 12‑hour night shift schedule (6:00 p.m. 6:00 a.m.) after an initial training period on day shift, requiring comfort with extended shifts and overnight work. You will regularly handle tools, equipment, and components, and may need to work at heights or in tight spaces while adhering to all safety procedures and wearing appropriate industrial work attire and protective gear.
