Grand River Navigation is seeking a qualified 3rd Assistant Engineer to join our US-flag self-unloading vessels on the Great Lakes. You will assist with propulsion, monitor machinery, and support preventive maintenance while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• TWIC Card – Transportation Worker Identification Credential.
• USCG MMC required; MMC Endorsement as 3rd Assistant Engineer.
• MMC Endorsement as 3rd Assistant Engineer of Motor Propelled Vessels Unlimited Horsepower.
• Unexpired US Passport or Enhanced Driver’s License.
• Legally authorized to work in the US, without restriction.
• Excellent communication and ability to multi-task.
• Experience working as a team and desire to work together as a team player.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of propulsion, auxiliary, and mechanical systems.
• Perform routine inspections of engine room equipment and report deficiencies to senior engineering officers.
• Assist with preventative maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of vessel machinery.
• Maintain engineering logs, maintenance records, and equipment documentation.
• Support fuel transfers, lubrication programs, and inventory management of engineering supplies.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in engine room and machinery spaces.
• Participate in emergency drills and respond to vessel emergencies as assigned.
• Comply with company safety policies, environmental regulations, and vessel operating procedures.
• Assist with drydock projects, equipment overhauls, and regulatory inspections.
• Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering officers to support safe and efficient vessel operations.
