Job summary

Industries of the Blind, Greensboro is seeking a Material Handler to move raw materials and finished goods to the proper work areas and storage locations to support smooth production flow.

The role requires 1–2 years of experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and up to 3 years in material handling. You will use hand trucks, pallet jacks, and carts, stand for long periods, and assist with packaging and inventory control.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

  • Requires extensive walking throughout the entire day in order to meet production quotas.

Supplies operators with materials and moves finished work to next operation

Ensure proper movement of work through production.

  • Informs supervisor of material shortages
  • Uses hand trucks, carts, pallet jacks, etc. to move materials throughout the department.
  • Assist supervisor in maintaining adequate inventory supplies by reporting low levels or shortages of supplies.
  • Assists with product packaging duties to prepare finished product for palletizing and storage.
  • Responsible for safety and good housekeeping practices around work areas
  • Promptly completes any other duties and responsibilities designated by the department supervisor.
  • Receives, distributes, and stores products as directed in designated, secure locations.
  • Prepares and maintains records of materials received and shipped including dates of transactions, locations, and other pertinent information.
  • Reviews shipments for quality and accuracy; reviews documents for accuracy
  • Confirms shipping details or special instructions; expedites shipments that affect the manufacturing process schedule.
  • Transports and loads materials, supplies, and finished goods (manually and/or using hand trucks and skids)
  • When problems arise, resolves issues with contractors or vendors.
  • Validates, approves, and forwards invoices to the accounting department.
  • Collects and properly disposes of scrap bracing, cardboard, and strapping; maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Requires ability to read and write, follow written and oral instructions, and perform simple mathematical operations.
  • Requires the ability to utilize carts, shop trucks, hand jacks, etc. to assist with movement of materials.
Work Experience
  • Required Experience:1 to 2 years
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a material handler
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to stand and use external dexterities for an entire shift
  • Walk and stand for 8 hours a day, with the exception of breaks and lunch periods.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds
