Summary of Primary Functions: Our 3D Surveying Technician is responsible for collecting, processing, and analyzing spatial data using advanced 3D surveying technologies, with a primary focus on the Trimble SX10 Scanning Total Station. The technician ensures accurate and detailed representations of terrain, structures, and site conditions for use in design, construction, monitoring, and analysis across a range of industries such as construction, infrastructure, and engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

All employees are required to follow all Safety and Quality rules and processes to ensure a safe working environment and the production of high-quality products. Duties and responsibilities for our 3D Surveying Technician includes, but is not limited to:

  • Perform field surveys utilizing the Trimble SX10, GPS/GNSS equipment, terrestrial laser scanners, and drones.
  • Set up, operate, and calibrate the Trimble SX10 to collect both scanning and survey data.
  • Process 3D point cloud data and integrate it with traditional survey datasets.
  • Use software such as Trimble Business Center, Leica Cyclone, Autodesk ReCap, or similar to analyze and extract deliverables.
  • Produce accurate 2D drawings, 3D models, digital terrain models (DTMs), and topographic maps.
  • Conduct field-to-office data workflows, ensuring high accuracy and quality assurance.
  • Support integration of scan data into BIM, GIS, or CAD platforms.
  • Maintain proper field notes, data logs, and equipment checklists.
  • Follow safety protocols and industry standards in all field and office work.

Job Specifications or Qualifications

Education: A High School Diploma is preferred but not required.

Certifications: Diploma or certification in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field.

Experience:

  • Hands-on experience operating the Trimble SX10 or similar total station/laser scanner hybrids.
  • Proficiency in Trimble Business Center and other 3D data processing platforms.
  • Strong understanding of coordinate systems, geodetic principles, and 3D spatial data workflows.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent spatial reasoning skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license (for travel to job sites).
  • Preferred:
  • Experience in construction, mining, or infrastructure survey projects.
  • Knowledge of drone photogrammetry or mobile LiDAR workflows.
  • Familiarity with BIM tools or GIS systems.
