Summary:
Qualified by successful completion of certified training modules and methods to set up, operate, and maintain all qualified pieces of equipment for assigned inside production departments. Under supervision, coordinates work and resolves production and equipment problems for departments such as Cutting, Packing, Capping, and Finished Goods.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
- Sets up, troubleshoots, repairs, and/or replaces parts, and operates qualified equipment in the department.
- Coordinates work and resolves production or equipment problems under supervision.
- Performs preventive maintenance and inspections of all equipment.
- Ensures equipment is set up, operated, repaired, and maintained to produce safe, quality food while meeting department KPIs.
- Adjusts line speeds as necessary to meet standards and maximize production while maintaining quality.
- Performs daily and weekly operational and pre-operational checks; writes work requests for repairs with supervisor approval; makes DIN calls as needed.
- Troubleshoots and repairs equipment, including part replacements, to minimize downtime; notifies maintenance when needed.
- Cleans and maintains work area, including servicing and preventive maintenance of equipment.
- Monitors product adherence to food safety and quality standards; coverage by trained personnel in the absence of lead operator/mechanic.
- Reviews weekly and monthly preventive maintenance reports.
- Follows safety rules and company policies.
Other Duties:
- Assumes some supervisor duties in their absence.
- Assists in training employees and monitoring progress.
- Assumes responsibilities of Operator Mechanic, Time Keeper, and Staffer when needed.
- Records weekly inventory of supplies.
- Performs minor fabrication projects, including grinding and sheet metal work.
- Operates forklift occasionally.
- Participates in training, meetings, committees, and project teams.
- Follows instructions from supervisor and performs other work as directed.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; trades training is a plus.
- Successful completion of company training modules for all qualified equipment.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Mathematical skills for sizing materials, computing amounts, and reporting.
- Ability to learn new technology and instruct others.
- Intermediate computer skills; CRC certification a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Not a supervisor but leads others and assumes some supervisory duties in their absence.
Machines and Equipment: Includes conveyors, labelers, printers, case jets, banding machinery, tray formers, inserters, fillers, palletizers, shrink wrappers, case packers, pumps, cutting machinery, cappers, sorters, blanchers, pasteurizers, and others. Tools include hand tools, scan guns, measuring devices, and forklift.
Physical Demands:
- Includes stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing.
- Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
- Requires close visual acuity for machine operation and mechanical tasks.
Work Environment:
Indoor work with seasonal temperature variations, some wetness, exposure to grease, ink, dust, glue, fumes; machinery noise requiring earplugs; head and beard covers; steel-toed shoes.
