Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to assess, plan and coordinate patient care on a Med/Surg unit. The RN will supervise non-RN staff when applicable and may serve as charge nurse, ensuring high standards of patient care.

Candidate should have CT RN licensure, BSN preferred, and be prepared to obtain BLS/ACLS within six months of hire. Two years of Med/Surg experience is preferred to support quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
• Two years Med/Surg experience preferred.
• Valid CT RN license in-state is required.
• BLS and ACLS required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assess the patient's physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care.
• Develop, communicate and document a plan of care; involve patient, family, and healthcare team.
• Implement and coordinate the plan with the healthcare team; provide patient education.
• Evaluate the plan and patient progress; adjust as needed and refer when indicated.
• Serve as preceptor to new staff and as charge nurse when needed.
• Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, and resource use.
• Demonstrate knowledge of standards of care for critically ill patients and related procedures.

Works Under The Supervision Of The Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. The Registered Nurse (Rn) Assesses, Plans, Implements, Evaluates And Supervises Individual Patient Care On A Nursing Unit/Department According To Unit Policies And Procedures. Provides Supervision Of Non-Rn Personnel On The Assigned Unit. When Assuming The Charge Role, Delegates And Supervises Unit Activities. May Be Requires To Work On Other Nursing Units According To Distribution Of Staff And Patients. Performs Other Duties As Assigned Or Requested In Order To Maintain A High Level Of Service.

• 13. Demonstrates Skill And Knowledge Of Procedures And Protocols Associated With The Care Of Patients With Intracranial Monitoring Devices And Ventriculostomy.
• 14. Demonstrates Skill And Knowledge Of Procedures And Protocols Associated With The Care Of Patients Intubated And Receiving Ventilator Support.
• 15. Demonstrates Skill And Knowledge Of Procedures And Protocols Associated With Defibrillation, Cardioversion And The Care Of Patients Utilizing External And Temporary Pacemakers.
• 16. Demonstrates Skill And Knowledge Of Procedures And Protocols Associated With The Care Of Patients Needing Peritoneal Dialysis.
• 17. Demonstrates Skill And Knowledge Of Procedures And Protocols Associated With The Care Of Patients Needing Conscious Sedation.
• 18. Demonstrates Skill And Knowledge Of Procedures And Protocols Associated In The Post Anesthesia Recovery Of Patients.
• 19. Demonstrates Skill And Knowledge Of Procedures And Protocols Associated In The Initiating And Maintaining Intravenous Therapy Of Critical Care Patients.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduate Of An Accredited School Of Nursing; Bsn Preferred. Proficient In Use Of Computer Software To Include Electronic Patient Records. Must Have Ability To Use Internet For Literature Searches Regarding Care For Patients.

Experience

Two Years Med/Surg Experience Preferred

LICENSURE
