Job summary

Public Service Co. of OK is seeking a skilled line worker to build, repair, and maintain electrical transmission and distribution systems. You will climb poles or work from a bucket, install and repair underground facilities, and handle energized lines with safety gear.

A valid CDL A license and experience in power line work are required. The role involves overtime, on-call duties, and travel as needed, with a heavy emphasis on safety and precise electrical work across overhead and underground

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience, or equivalent training incl. 16 weeks internship or associate degree with internship.
• Must possess and maintain a valid CDL A license.
• Live within 35 miles of service center; able to climb and work at heights; able to communicate courteously.

Responsibilities

• Climbs poles or rides in bucket to install or repair wires and hardware.
• Installs and repairs underground facilities and pole equipment.
• Works with insulated poles and PPE to perform energized line work.
• May service streetlight systems and patrol power lines.
• Performs related or incidental tasks as assigned.

Opens and closes switches and installs grounding devices to lines and equipment.Job DescriptionWHAT YOU'LL DO:This list is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions.Employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined below.Climbs poles or rides in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators or other hardware on poles.Installs and repairs underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads and pedestals.Installs pole hardware and such auxiliary equipment as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices.Covers energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service.Uses insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work.May service streetlight systems. May patrol power lines.Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:Education requirements are listed below: High School Diploma or GEDWork Experience requirement listed below: Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience defined as: successful completion of a one year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience, or an Associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience. Applicable years of experience will determine appropriate classification.Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: Must possess and maintain a valid CDL A state driver's license.Experience:OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Must live within 35 mile radius/40 roadway miles of the service center.Must have the ability to climb and work at heights.Must have the ability to communicate with employees, customers and the general public in a courteous and proper manner.Must pass the AEP Pre-Assessment Evaluation.Must acquire with such time determined by the Company, the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the next higher line of progression or vacate the current job classifications.Work Hours / Travel Requirements: 40 hours per week with overtime and travel as required.Must be available for overtime callout including weekends and holidays.This role requires regular overtime and on-call response.
