Job summary

A. M. Castle & Co. in Hammond, IN, is hiring a full-time Machine Operator for 2nd shift (4 p.m.–2 a.m.). The role involves operating turning machines and cranes, maintaining quality, and inputting data in a busy warehouse.

Candidates should have 1–3 years of warehouse experience, experience with Kieserling machines, and the ability to be certified on equipment such as forklift or sideloader. Training on the turning machine is provided.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of warehouse experience.
• Experience on Kieserling machine is a plus.
• Experience operating an overhead crane.
• Ability to be certified on equipment (forklift, sideloader).
• Advanced measurement competency.
• Knowledge of warehouse concepts and procedures.
• Strong work ethic.
• Heat treating operations knowledge (preferred).
• Experience in metals service center (preferred).
• Certified in assigned equipment (forklift, side-loader, overhead crane).

Responsibilities

• Operate turning machines and saws, monitor quality of material produced.
• Operate crane to load machines and load or unload trucks.
• Maintain accurate documents and data input.
• Sets up and operates cutting machine(s) in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
• May perform programming and/or editing on assigned machine(s).
• Performs preventative maintenance on assigned machine(s) and corresponding equipment.
• May perform other responsibilities in the warehouse as requested.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
