Job summary

Decatur Public Schools District #61 is seeking a Substitute Custodian for the 2nd shift to support all schools. The role requires strong custodial skills, good communication, and a focus on maintaining a safe, clean environment for students and staff.

The position reports to the Principal and Custodial Foreman, with duties including completing assigned tasks, handling overtime as needed, and coordinating with building leadership to ensure standards are met. Immediate availability is preferred.

Qualifications

• Function effectively as a member of the custodial service staff.
• Communicate effectively in speech and writing.
• Assist in the maintenance of a positive educational atmosphere.

Responsibilities

• Complete the regular work assignments as outlined by the Supervisor of Custodial Operations.
• Receive special work assignments from the head custodian, the principal (or his representative) and/or the custodial foreman.
• Accept or reject overtime assignments as per Article VI of the Agreement.
• Coordinate the completion of employee time sheets with the head custodian and/or building principal.
• Completes minor repair jobs as required.
• Complete all summer and/or school-vacation work as may be required.
• Complete work assignments necessary to keep the school building and grounds clean and in proper order.
• Work cooperatively with the administration and educational staff.
• Adhere to all Board policies, administrative regulations, and state and federal regulations as are applicable to the custodial operations.
• Report any work-related problems to the head custodian and/or custodial foreman.
• Report any personnel-related problem to the building principal and/or custodial foreman.
• Work cooperatively with all other service departments.
• Inspects for unsafe acts/conditions and identifies prompt corrective action to eliminate causes of accidents; follows up as required.
