2nd shift R&D Associate Engineer

This position reports to

Testing & Laboratory Manager

Your role and responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with a team of technical resources to carry out test requests for Global R&D teams in electrical and high power components.
  2. Perform R&D and compliance testing using standard and specialized test equipment, within planned testing times, ensuring compliance with quality and delivery metrics.
  3. Execute all technical functions relevant to preparation and testing as specified by global test requests.
  4. Prepare and operate test equipment for electrical tests, starting with calibration, dielectric, temperature rise, with plans to grow into short circuit, overload, electrical endurance, and specialized testing.
  5. Perform environmental tests such as rain spray, hose down, and water mist.
  6. Perform basic calculations of technical data and report accordingly.
  7. Communicate test data and prepare technical documentation and formal reports as needed.
  8. Maintain accurate maintenance and qualification records.
  9. Manage the test queue and update statuses promptly.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of proprietary test data, formulations, and patentable or confidential items under development.
  11. Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and working area.
  12. Adhere to ABB safety protocols and procedures.
  13. Work independently and collaboratively with limited supervision.
Qualifications for the role
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of related experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in operating electrical and electromechanical equipment.
  • Strong understanding of electricity theory and ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Experience with UL, CSA, IEC testing standards is desired.
  • Working knowledge of electrical testing equipment.
  • Proficiency in PC applications including MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Driver's license and reliable transportation to commute to satellite labs.
  • Eagerness to learn advanced electrical principles and electromechanical skills.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US for ABB.
