Job summary

Atrium is seeking a 2nd Shift QC Microbiologist in Northvale, NJ, to perform routine microbiological testing of water systems, raw materials, and finished products within a regulated environment.

You will interpret results, generate detailed reports, maintain data integrity, and mentor junior staff on testing methods and SOP compliance.

This Monday–Friday, 2nd shift role supports cGMP and FDA requirements, with collaboration across the quality team and external labs.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of microbiology experience in a regulated lab.
• Hands-on microbiology techniques including aseptic technique, streak plating, culture maintenance, gram staining.
• Understanding of cGMP and FDA regulations.
• Strong data interpretation and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine microbiological testing of water systems, bulk chemicals, drug substances, and finished products.
• Conduct aseptic sampling of materials, air, and surfaces to monitor contamination.
• Analyze results, monitor trends, and prepare detailed reports ensuring data integrity.
• Prepare media and perform growth-promotion testing.
• Assist with calibration and maintenance of instruments.
• Coordinate testing with external contract labs.
• Draft investigation reports and non-conformance assessments.
• Maintain SOPs per regulatory requirements.
• Mentor junior staff on testing practices and SOP adherence.

Position Overview

The 2nd Shift QC Microbiologist position is ideal for a microbiology professional with experience working in a regulated environment who is comfortable performing routine microbiological testing, interpreting results, and supporting quality and compliance initiatives. This is a Monday to Friday, 2nd shift position.

Responsibilities Of The 2nd Shift QC Microbiologist

• Perform routine microbiological testing of water systems, bulk chemicals, drug substances, and finished pharmaceutical products.
• Conduct aseptic sampling of raw materials, environmental air, and surfaces to monitor for potential contamination.
• Analyze test results, monitor data trends, and prepare detailed reports in accordance with data integrity requirements.
• Prepare microbiological media and perform growth-promotion testing to verify test reliability.
• Assist with calibration, routine maintenance, and qualification of laboratory instrumentation.
• Coordinate with external contract laboratories to support accurate and timely testing and reporting.
• Draft investigation reports and non-conformance assessments.
• Maintain and update SOPs in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior microbiologists and laboratory technicians, reinforcing proper testing and laboratory practices.

Required Experience/Skills For The 2nd Shift QC Microbiologist

• 2 - 4 years of relevant microbiology experience in a regulated laboratory environment.
• Hands-on experience with core microbiological techniques, including aseptic technique, streak plating, culture maintenance, and gram staining.
• Working knowledge of USP , , and/or .
• Understanding of cGMP and FDA regulatory requirements.
• Strong ability to accurately interpret, document, and report microbiological data.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials and gases.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Experience/Skills For The 2nd Shift QC Microbiologist

• Familiarity with LIMS or similar laboratory software.
• Experience with advanced microbiological techniques.
• Experience coordinating testing with third-party or contract laboratories.
• Background in environmental monitoring within a manufacturing environment.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related life science field is required.
