Job summary

Atrium Staffing is seeking a 2nd Shift QC Microbiologist in Northvale, NJ for a regulated manufacturing client. This Monday–Friday role involves routine microbiological testing of water systems, raw materials, in-process and finished products, with emphasis on data integrity and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include aseptic sampling, interpretation of test results, and preparation of detailed reports.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of microbiology experience in a regulated lab.
• Hands-on microbiology techniques including aseptic technique, streak plating, culture maintenance, and gram staining.
• Familiarity with USP <61>, <62>, and/or <63> and cGMP/FDA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine microbiological testing of water systems, raw materials, and finished products.
• Conduct aseptic sampling of materials, air, and surfaces for contamination monitoring.
• Analyze results, track data trends, and prepare reports per data integrity requirements.
• Maintain media prep, growth-promotion testing, and instrument calibration.
• Draft investigations and assist with non-conformance assessments.

Its quality control laboratory plays a critical role in maintaining rigorous quality and regulatory standards. The organization fosters a collaborative, detail-oriented environment. They are currently seeking a 2nd Shift QC Microbiologist to join their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$65k Annually

Position Overview:

The 2nd Shift QC Microbiologist position is ideal for a microbiology professional with experience working in a regulated environment who is comfortable performing routine microbiological testing, interpreting results, and supporting quality and compliance initiatives. This is a Monday to Friday, 2nd shift position.

Responsibilities of the 2nd Shift QC Microbiologist:

• Perform routine microbiological testing of water systems, bulk chemicals, drug substances, and finished pharmaceutical products.
• Conduct aseptic sampling of raw materials, environmental air, and surfaces to monitor for potential contamination.
• Analyze test results, monitor data trends, and prepare detailed reports in accordance with data integrity requirements.
• Prepare microbiological media and perform growth-promotion testing to verify test reliability.
• Assist with calibration, routine maintenance, and qualification of laboratory instrumentation.
• Coordinate with external contract laboratories to support accurate and timely testing and reporting.
• Draft investigation reports and non-conformance assessments.
• Maintain and update SOPs in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior microbiologists and laboratory technicians, reinforcing proper testing and laboratory practices.

Required Experience/Skills for the 2nd Shift QC Microbiologist:

• 2 - 4 years of relevant microbiology experience in a regulated laboratory environment.
• Hands-on experience with core microbiological techniques, including aseptic technique, streak plating, culture maintenance, and gram staining.
• Working knowledge of USP <61>, <62>, and/or <63>.
• Understanding of cGMP and FDA regulatory requirements.
• Strong ability to accurately interpret, document, and report microbiological data.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials and gases.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the 2nd Shift QC Microbiologist:

• Familiarity with LIMS or similar laboratory software.
• Experience with advanced microbiological techniques.
• Experience coordinating testing with third-party or contract laboratories.
• Background in environmental monitoring within a manufacturing environment.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related life science field is required.
