Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Punch Press Operator with experience on Amada CNC punch press equipment to join our manufacturing team. This is a 2nd shift position, working four 10‑hour days (Monday–Thursday) from 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM, providing a consistent schedule with a three‑day weekend. This position includes a $1.50/hour shift differential for all hours worked on 2nd shift.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating punch press machines to produce high‑quality sheet metal parts according to engineering specifications and production schedules. This role requires a strong understanding of machine operation, tooling setup, and blueprint reading, along with a commitment to safety, accuracy, and efficiency. The Punch Press Operator will play a key role in maintaining production flow, ensuring quality standards are met, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the shop.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and maintain Amada CNC punch press machines to fabricate sheet metal components according to specifications
• Load and unload raw materials (sheet metal) onto the punch press equipment safely and efficiently
• Read and interpret blueprints, job orders, and technical drawings to determine machine setup and production requirements
• Select, install, and align tooling (dies, punches) based on job specifications
• Program or input CNC data as required, including offsets, tool paths, and nesting layouts (if applicable)
• Perform first‑piece inspections and in‑process quality checks using calipers, micrometers, and gauges
• Monitor machine operation to ensure quality, accuracy, and productivity standards are met
• Troubleshoot machine issues and make minor adjustments to maintain production flow
• Maintain proper documentation, including production records, inspection reports, and downtime logs
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment per preventive maintenance schedules
• Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other operators to improve efficiency and workflow

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred
• 2+ years of experience operating CNC punch press machines preferred
• Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and tooling setup
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions
• Experience using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)
• Mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods in a manufacturing environment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Basic computer skills for machine interface and data entry
• Knowledge of safety standards and best practices in a manufacturing setting
