Job summary

nVent is seeking a 2nd Shift Machinist in Anoka, MN to set up and operate CNC mills and lathes, read blueprints, and produce high‑quality parts in a fast-paced environment. You will also run manual machines, perform basic program edits, and ensure tolerances are met.

Ideal candidates have experience with CNC milling/turning, manual equipment, and precision measurement tools, and can work independently on a structured night shift.

Qualifications

• Experience running CNC milling and turning equipment.
• Experience operating manual mills and lathes.
• Ability to hold close tolerances and perform precision work.
• Strong understanding of machining fundamentals (feeds, speeds, tooling, materials).
• Ability to read blueprints and use standard inspection tools.
• Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently on 2nd shift.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC mills and CNC lathes.
• Operate manual mills, manual lathes, drill presses, band saws, and precision grinding equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
• Select proper tooling, fixtures, and measuring equipment.
• Inspect parts using precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, etc.).
• Make basic program edits at the machine as needed (offsets, wear, minor changes).
• Maintain part quality and meet production requirements.
• Perform basic machine maintenance and keep work area clean and organized.
• Follow all safety, quality, and company procedures.
• Communicate issues related to tooling, materials, or machine performance to supervision.
