Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a full-time pipefitter to install, modify, and repair piping systems on-site. The role requires reading drawings and planning routing, with installation of hangers, risers, and equipment at correct elevations.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of related education/experience; apprentice graduates or associated degrees with 1 year of related experience are also considered. Certification may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of additional education and/or related experience.
• Apprentice graduate / Associate's Degree in a relevant discipline and 1 year of related experience.
• Certification may be required.

Responsibilities

• Install, modify, and repair piping systems and equipment.
• Read drawings, blueprints, and sketches to plan routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of piping systems.
• Set up system routes, place and cut route openings, and install hangers at proper pitch and elevation.
• Determine and install risers, branch outlets, expansion joints, pumps, gauges, and pressure regulators as needed.
• Plan and complete routing and placement of systems leading to equipment, placing equipment at the correct elevations and points.
• Join, seal, and test systems and equipment to ensure proper pressures and leak‑free joints.
