Job summary

Staffmark Group is hiring a Material Preparation Technician in Houston, TX. This role operates manufacturing equipment, monitors product quality, and supports production in a fast-paced setting.

You will prepare materials, perform basic welding, and handle metal fabrication tasks to ensure consistent, safe operations. The position requires a high school diploma or GED with welding experience; welding certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical training in welding, fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial production preferred.
• AWS welding certification (AWS D1.1) or similar credential is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, technical drawings, and material specifications.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, stage, and assemble incoming metal feedstock materials for production and fabrication processes.
• Perform tack-welding and basic welding operations to create production-ready components.
• Operate machinery and hand tools to cut, grind, deburr, shape, and condition metal materials to specifications.
• Conduct equipment inspections and perform routine preventive maintenance to support safe, efficient operations.
• Use forklifts and material handling equipment to transport raw materials and finished products.
• Collaborate with production, foundry, and quality teams to ensure material readiness, product consistency, and manufacturing efficiency.
• Identify material shortages, defects, or quality concerns and communicate issues proactively.
• Follow all safety procedures, SOPs, and quality standards while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
