Job summary

Miller Waste Mills is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform preventative maintenance and timely repairs on our industrial equipment. The role supports manufacturing facilities in IN and MN, with a focus on reliability and safety.

Ideal candidates will have a two-year technical degree in maintenance, 5+ years in industrial maintenance, and strong skills in electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. On-site schedule and opportunity for growth are offered.

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree in maintenance or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Industrial Maintenance experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
  • Experience with blueprint reading and electrical schematics.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain additional certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure reliability.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.
  • Maintain organization of the maintenance shop and parts inventory.
  • Document work performed in logs and reports; communicate status with teams.
  • Support production by responding to equipment breakdowns and requests.
  • Mentor Level I technicians and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely per procedures.
  • Assist with installation, layout, and maintenance of complex equipment.

Miller Waste Mills operates textile processing facilities in Winona, MN, and Fremont, IN. Miller Wates Mills also does business as RTP Company. RTP Company is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics headquartered in Winona, Minnesota.

The Maintenance Technician routinely performs preventative maintenance on all equipment and components to ensure the continued safe, efficient, and effective operations of equipment used in the facility. This position also assists with maintaining parts inventory, organizing, and maintaining the maintenance shop, diagnosing equipment malfunctions and performs repairs. This position must be able to take a proactive approach to preventative maintenance to improve equipment reliability and lifespan.

Level II personnel must be able and willing to perform all level 1 responsibilities in addition to level II responsibilities, skills, abilities, and experience requirements.

Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday 3:00 PM to 1 AM . Will be expected to be on call as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Level I
    • Completes routine repairs, preventative maintenance, and troubleshoots maintenance issues on standardized equipment
    • Responds to production requests for immediate attention to production line breakdowns
    • Assists in maintaining the organization of the maintenance shop and adequate parts inventory
    • Documents work completed as required including logs, data reports, procedures, etc
    • Communicates and collaborates with other departments, including production, warehouse, and quality, regarding the status of maintenance projects and needs
    • Participates in training, retraining, and continual improvement processes and methods
    • Ensures plant is maintained and in accordance with housekeeping policies and guidelines
    • Follows and complies with all safety, work rules, and regulations
    • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned, or apparent
    • Troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues within a wide variety of machines such as relay logic and PLCs
    • Working with hand and/or power equipment in a manufacturing setting
    • Fabricating and repairing parts
    • Responsible for planning, layout, installation and maintenance of complex equipment containing automatic controls, generating equipment, large switchboards, motors, rollers and complex gear reducers mandrels and other electrical and mechanical components<br>
  • Level II

    • Completes more complex repairs, preventative maintenance, and trouble shoots issues on all equipment specific to production operations at each facility
    • Performs work more independently and with limited to no supervision
    • Mentors and trains level I employees; may take a lead role
    • Leads equipment overhaul projects in conjunction with Maintenance Management
    • Identifies and orders parts supplies to maintain critical parts stock levels
    • Acts as a utility maintenance that also supports other maintenance activities like electrical support and/or fabrication support on top of general maintenance expectations
    • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned, or apparent

    • Level I
      • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized work processes, and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment
      • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate courtesy and tact with people in various positions and levels within the company
      • Must be capable of multi-tasking and working both as a team and independently
      • Must have effective time management skills
      • Must have general computer skills, ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints and is capable of accurately distinguishing colors
      • Must maintain a clean and safe workspace
      • Must have a valid driver’s license
      • Must be available to work overtime as needed; with little, to no notice
      • Must be able to pass a forklift, boom lift, and scissor lift.
      • Attendance is an essential function of the position.
      • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
      • Ability to reference and understand blue prints and schematics for new construction and troubleshooting purposes. (i.e., Electrical, Pneumatic, Hydraulic)
      • Proficiency in setting up and operating shop machinery and hand tools such as drill press, grinders, band saws, cutting torch, welder. etc.
      • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as needed.
      • Knowledgeable in electrical and electronic systems. Able to conduct circuit board diagnostics troubleshooting to install, adjust and debug components to resolve machinery
    • Level II

      • Must be able to work with limited to no supervision
      • Must have effective interpersonal and communication skills to be able to mentor / train other personnel
      • Must have effective leadership skills
      • Must be able to support other maintenance areas such as electrical or fabrication; travel as needed<br><br>
      Education And Experience

      • Two-year technical degree in maintenance related field or a combination of education and experience
      • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Technician preferred
      • Plastic extrusion experience preferred
      • Forklift and Scissor lift maintenance experience preferred
      • Basic electrical knowledge preferred<br><br>
      • Minimum of 5 years of Industrial Maintenance experience required;
      • 1+ years electrical experience in an industrial setting if performing electrical support
      • Must have project work experience, lead capacity preferred
      • Must have stockroom and parts acquisition experience<br><br>
