Job summary

Wabash is seeking a Maintenance Technician I to support production by limiting downtime and responding quickly to issues. You will complete preventive maintenance, repair production equipment, and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

The role requires flexibility for 8–12 hour shifts, overtime, and weekend work. Ideal candidates have 1–3 years in related fields, strong communication, and the ability to work both independently and with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Basic reading, writing, & verbal skills.
  • Prior experience with mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems (24DC, 120/277/480AC).
  • Ability to work on projects individually and cross-functionally.
  • Capable of rapid response and safe handling in changing situations.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and ability to measure with tape, micrometers, and dial calipers.
  • Experience with SAP and SAP PM is a plus.
  • 1-3 years' experience in related field.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of ladder logic and 480-volt motor controls preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support production by minimizing equipment downtime and providing prompt responses.

  • Overtime and weekend work as required; some assignments may require 12-hour shifts.
  • Adhere to duties across all Duraplate division scheduling options.

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support production by minimizing equipment downtime, providing prompt response times.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance and planned production equipment repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues with mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Perform minor tasks on electrical components such as sensors, fuses, breakers, etc.
  • Follow safety policies and practices while maintaining Wabash's Leadership Principles and Values.
  • Ability to work on projects both individually and with a cross-functional team.
  • The Maintenance Technician I position is expected to work full shifts, which may be 8, 10, or 12 hours per day, depending on the plant’s needs.
  • Work schedule includes mandatory overtime and weekends.
  • Assignments in the Duraplate division may require 12-hour shifts and coverage across all possible scheduling options.
  • Perform other duties as needed or required.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience with the following skills: Mechanical, Pneumatic, Hydraulic, and Electrical (24DC, 120/277/480AC) systems. Methodical problem solving to identify root cause of breakdowns.
  • Ability to work on projects both individually and cross functionally.
  • Must be capable of rapidly responding, adapting to changing and nonstandard situations, while remaining thorough and safety conscious during entire process.
  • Must have good mechanical aptitude, knowledge of tools (power and hand), ability to make detailed measurements using instruments, including but not limited to, tape measures, micrometers, and dial calipers.
  • Experience using SAP and SAP PM (Plant Maintenance) is a plus
  • The desired candidate will have 1-3 years' experience in any related field.
  • Excellent Communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge of ladder logic preferred.
  • Knowledge of 480-volt AC/DC motor controls preferred.

Maintenance Technician experience and education are great to come into this position with. However, it's not required, here at Wabash, we give you access to schooling and training to become comfortable in any Maintenance Technician position.

As a Maintenance Technician, you are regularly required to stand, walk, lean, push, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle and operate tools or controls for the length of their entire shift. The employee needs full range of motion in their arms and hands in this position. All Maintenance Technician's must be able to successfully communicate with fellow employees as well. Some Maintenance Technicians also work in small spaces throughout their shift and frequently lift and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, along with good hand-eye coordination. Maintenance Technicians must be able to work at heights or from a ladder as required. They must also have the ability to push or pull up to 100 pounds intermittently and perform tasks that require twisting, turning, and working in uncomfortable positions. Additionally, technicians must have the ability to see and work in low-light areas. The role also requires the ability to operate and use a tricycle as needed.
