Job summary

Olympic Steel, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Machine Operator for the 2nd shift (4:00pm - 2:30am). You will work with a production helper to run setups, monitor material hardness, gauge width, and conformance to specs, while feeding stock through leveler rolls and paying-off equipment.

You’ll verify final product quality, weigh and tag orders, and help package to meet customer requirements. Strong math and computer skills, plus safety-focused mindset, are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Mechanically inclined, production oriented, safety and quality conscious.
• Crane operation and ancillary lifting devices knowledge.
• Basic math skills required.
• Working knowledge of general computer programs required.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Setups with production helper following established procedures.
• Confirm hardness, gauge width, and finished material conformity to job requirements and customer specifications.
• Operate console to load coil stock to pay-off mechanism and adjust settings for proper width and flat stock.
• Thread through automatic length and sheet count; set feeds and speed for quality and quantity requirements.
• Stack sheets according to order and oversee packaging to meet customer specs.
• Verify final product hardness and dimensions; weigh and attach shipping tags to orders.
• Remove unused coils from payoff for inventory return.
• Occasionally operate units manually and detect faults or defective material; report to supervisor.
• Record production data and time information.
