Job summary

Great Lakes Cheese in Abilene, TX seeks a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Technician to support the Food Safety Plan through monitoring, record review, and inspections in a lab/production setting.

You will conduct verification inspections, environmental monitoring, swab plating, temperature checks, and daily line inspections while maintaining GMP and Safe Quality Food standards. Strong attention to detail and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; able to follow standard procedures.
• Ability to multitask and work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct verification inspections for post sanitation and pre-operation cleans.
• Perform pre-operational and environmental monitoring swabs.
• Process plating of environmental monitoring swabs.
• Monitor room, cooler and incubator temperatures.
• Test and monitor product and packaging attributes to specs.
• Review labels daily and retain products as needed.
• Review production records in real time.
• Conduct daily line inspections and routine data entry.

Job Overview

The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Technician supports the overall Food Safety Plan through monitoring, record/product review and inspections.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct verification inspections for post sanitation and pre-operation cleans.
• Conduct pre-operational and environmental monitoring swabs
• Conduct plating of environmental monitoring swabs
• Monitor room, cooler and incubator temperatures.
• Conduct routine testing and monitoring of product and packaging attributes to established specifications
• Conduct daily review of labels and retain product
• Conduct real time review of production records
• Conduct daily line inspections.
• Conduct routine data entry and filing of paper work
• All GLC employees are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and procedures
• All GLC employees are expected to produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectation of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by plant FSQA leadership.
• Maintain company confidentiality.

Required Education And Experience

• High School Degree
• Ability to complete tasks based on standard procedures.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and work cross-functionally
• Basic Computer skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Education And Experience

• Associate’s degree in Food Science or related field
• SAP experience.
• HACCP Certification.

Working Conditions

• Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend neck; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands.
• Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hardhats, and/or safety glasses may be required.
• Work is performed in a lab setting.
• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
• Work in a fast-paced production environment with average temperature of 60-80 degrees F.
