Job summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking a Fleet Shop Supervisor to lead technicians and oversee daily shop operations within Charlotte’s Fleet Operations. You will schedule, prioritize work, and coordinate with City departments to ensure timely maintenance of a wide range of fleet equipment.

Ideal candidates have leadership experience, strong customer service skills, and proficiency with FMIS and budget tracking. A relevant automotive technology credential is preferred, along with ASE Master

Qualifications

Broad knowledge and hands-on experience in repair and maintenance of fleet equipment.
Proficient with Fleet Management Information Systems (FMIS) to track maintenance and performance metrics.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and documentation.
Strong leadership, decision-making and coaching abilities.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot and resolve complex vehicle/equipment issues; assist repair strategies.
Plan, organize, and direct daily shift operations to meet fleet availability.
Coordinate vendor activities for repairs and parts under warranty programs.
Assist the Shop Manager in overseeing daily shop operations and team leadership.
Provide responsive service to internal departments with updates and coordination of fleet-wide projects.
Track work order progress to ensure timely completion and maintain fleet availability.
Foster strong relationships with staff, departments, and vendors.
Develop and implement safe, efficient procedures for shop operations.
Monitor employee performance for annual evaluations.
