Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing is seeking a 2nd Shift Controls Engineer in Pontiac, MI, to design and program PLCs, HMIs, and robotic welding systems. You will troubleshoot, implement improvements, and support production with high-level electrical expertise.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering plus 2+ years of Rockwell/AB experience, PanelView programming, and strong problem-solving abilities. On-site with ESOP participation and safety-focused culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field required.
• 2+ years with Rockwell software and AB CompactLogix, GuardLogix, PanelView platforms.
• Electrical knowledge: install hardware and wiring.
• Program and debug automated robotic welding, sealing, fastening and assembly systems.
• Ability to program Panel View (HMI) and PLC.
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; teamwork.
• Willingness to adapt to shift changes and plant start-up activities.

Responsibilities

• Design and program PLC, HMI, robots and other electrical manufacturing equipment as needed.
• Lead troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment.
• Pursue continuous improvement: cycle time reduction, standardization, and error-proofing implementations.
