Job summary

Aerotek in Apex, NC is seeking a CNC Machinist to set up, program, and operate milling machines to produce precision components within tight tolerances. You will interpret blueprints, write and modify programs at the machine, and verify quality with precision measuring tools in a climate-controlled shop.

The role is a permanent second shift (2:20 p.m. to 12:50 a.m.), onsite, with opportunities for overtime, holidays, and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Read and interpret detailed blueprints and engineering drawings to determine machining requirements.
  • Read, write, and edit G-Code and M-Code, including Fanuc-style controls.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience with CNC milling machine programming and operation.
  • Proficiency in setting up CNC mills, including indicating parts and setting zero positions.
  • Ability to machine to tight tolerances and precise fits.
  • Ability to modify CNC programs and understand how changes affect subsequent operations and programs.
  • Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools, including measuring within .005 mm or 0.0002 inches.
  • Experience with common CNC controls and CNC milling operations.
  • Computer literacy, including the ability to pull programs from a server to CNC mills.
  • Awareness of basic machining concepts and how parts interact in assemblies.
  • Ability to work within tight tolerances consistently.
  • Ability to properly use and read calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs overhead.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret detailed blueprints and engineering drawings to determine machining requirements.
  • Set up CNC milling machines and accurately indicate parts prior to machining.
  • Write programs at the machine directly from drawings, using G-Code and M-Code.
  • Modify CNC programs to optimize machining conditions, including feed, speed, depth of cut, and axis movements and positioning.
  • Adjust cutters to achieve required tolerances and fits, and understand how these adjustments affect current and subsequent programs and tooling.
  • Machine parts to very close tolerances and precise fits, consistently meeting specification requirements.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to measure within .005 mm or 0.0002 inches.
  • Load programs into CNC machines and pull programs from the server to CNC mills using basic computer skills.
  • Read, write, and edit G-Code and M-Code to refine and troubleshoot machining operations.
  • Pick up and set zero positions on CNC machines accurately.
  • Run multiple machines during long program runs while maintaining quality and throughput.
  • Multi-task effectively by preparing the next job before the current job is finished to reduce setup time.
  • Monitor machine performance, make necessary adjustments, and ensure parts meet all quality standards.
  • Apply a solid understanding of basic machining concepts and how parts interact in assemblies.
  • Follow shop procedures and safety practices while handling materials and operating equipment.
  • Lift and move materials and components, as needed, up to 50 lbs overhead in a safe manner.
