Job summary

Miller-Keystone Blood Center is hiring a Blood Component Laboratory Technician for the 2nd shift at our Bethlehem location. The role involves manufacturing, quality control, and inventory management of blood products, with CLIA-compliant testing and reporting.

This is a full-time position with benefits and a starting hourly wage of $17.00, commensurate with experience. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED (associate degree preferred), 1–2 years in production or healthcare settings,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• 1–2 years of experience in production or manufacturing is preferred.
• Healthcare background preferred with experience handling blood specimens.
• Experience in a federally regulated environment (FDA/CLIA) is an advantage.
• Ability to follow SOPs with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

The Blood Component Laboratory Technician (2nd Shift) position supports the Blood Center by manufacturing a safe supply of blood and blood components to be used in our community hospitals. What you will be doing:

• Performs tasks including but not limited to manufacturing, quality control, and handling and managing inventory of blood products.
• Conducts Moderate Complexity testing in compliance with CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) requirements for bacterial sampling. This includes specimen processing, test performance, and accurate reporting of test results.
• Maintains laboratory records, quality control policies, and follows established policies and procedures.

• Identifies errors in the manufacturing of blood products that may adversely affect product quality, safety, or purity and apply corrective actions as necessary.
• Reviews testing records for accuracy and completion.

• Communicates clearly with internal department and externally with other departments and stakeholders.

What you will bring to the role:

• A high school diploma or GED is required with an associate's degree preferred.
• 1-2 years of experience preferred working in a production or manufacturing environment.
• A background in healthcare is preferred with experience handling and processing blood specimens, labeling, preparing, and transporting specimens for testing.
• Experience working in a federally regulated environment (FDA/CLIA)
• Must possess basic computer skills, strong attention to detail, critical thinking abilities, and the capability to follow standard operating procedures (SOP's).
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and listening) to engage with employees of all backgrounds.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle changing priorities to meet the needs of the blood center.

Additional information:

This position reports directly to the Component Laboratory Manager at our Bethlehem location. To best meet the needs of the team and department, this position requires scheduling flexibility but works the core hours of a second shift including:

M-Th 3p-11p, Friday 12-8 with rotating weekends and holidays

Additionally, this position requires the ability to lift 30 pounds, stand for long periods of time, and perform small and concise movements.

The Component Laboratory Technician works with blood products on a daily basis, exposure to potential biohazardous substances is high.
