Job summary

Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital is seeking a food service cook to prepare hot and cold foods for patients, the cafeteria, and events using standardized recipes. Emphasis on sanitary standards and on-schedule production.

Responsibilities include producing appropriate quantities, maintaining safety and hygiene, and providing quality customer service in a fast-paced hospital setting in Mount Vernon, NY.

Qualifications

• High School required.
• 1-3 years in an institutional or commercial cooking facility.
• English proficiency (spoken, reading, writing).
• Ability to do basic computation.
• Certificate and/or courses in food preparation and cooking from a culinary arts or restaurant school.

Responsibilities

• Prepares main entrees, soups, sauces, vegetables, salads, starches and desserts by using applied knowledge of basic cooking techniques at various stations.
• Produce quantities to meet patient, cafeteria and catering requirements with no shortages or overages.
• Maintain sanitary and safety standards per NYS Department of Health and keep a clean work area.
• Offer cafeteria customers a variety by preparing short order items.
• Maintain cleanliness of non-patient areas and check expiration dates on supplies.
• Provide a safe environment through infection control, safety, and disaster procedures.
• Communicate observations of patient status and collaborate with the care team.
• Adhere to HR policies and participate in continuous quality improvement.
