Job description

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is seeking a 2nd Class Marine Electrician to work in Suffolk, Virginia.


Responsibilities

  • Install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems on marine vessels, including interior communications.
  • Maintain and repair electrical systems on vessels.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic equipment on vessels and in shipyard facilities.
  • Interpret manufacturers' manuals to solve routine problems.
  • Work under supervision, following accepted practices, with guidance from supervisors or senior technicians.
  • Ensure quality, safety, and professionalism in all tasks.
  • Assist in installing, operating, maintaining, and modifying equipment on US Navy surface ships.
  • Layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, or fiber optic cables on Navy vessels.
  • Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical documents.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and cables.
  • Perform cable removal, installation, and repairs.
  • Complete complex installation tasks following quality and safety procedures.
  • Inspect work for conformance to specifications.
  • Maintain communication with supervisors and managers.
  • Execute electrical modifications and installations on naval vessels.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school certificate.
  • 3-5 years of experience with electrical systems on Navy, Coast Guard, MSC, or maritime vessels.
  • Familiarity with Interior Communications (IC) systems.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Pass pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Ability to obtain a Biometric Defense Identification System (DBIS) credential.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and travel as required.
  • Experience with Fiber Optic cables and multi-pin connectors.
  • Possession of trade-specific tools.
  • Effective communication skills and team experience.
  • Knowledge of NSI 009-73 requirements, including electrical testing, bonding, grounding, and cable installation.
  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting and schematics reading.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current NAVSEA Multipin Connector Certifications (NSI 009-73).
  • Current NAVSEA Fiber Optic certification (NSI 009-123).
  • NAVSEA Cableway Improvement Program certifications.
  • Vocational or skilled trades certification.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • OSHA 10 Maritime Certification.
  • Microsoft Office skills.
Physical Demands
  • Lift and carry heavy equipment (minimum 30 lbs).
  • Work on ladders, in extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and aboard ships.
  • Perform duties in high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions.
  • Wear respirators if required and travel as needed.
