Job summary

The United States Army Corps of Engineers is seeking a licensed 2nd Assistant Engineer for dredge operations. Responsibilities include inspecting machinery, performing minor repairs, and operating propulsion and utility systems under supervision.

Travel to different duty locations is expected and background checks will be conducted. Applicants must meet the licensing requirements, pass medical and drug tests, and be able to work varied schedules and adverse weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Must possess US Coast Guard 2nd Assistant Engineer Near Coastal or Limited Oceans license.
• Pre-Employment and annual physical required.
• Successfully complete and pass pre-employment and random drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular and periodic inspections by visual and auditory means of all machinery to determine operating condition and need for maintenance and repairs.
• Make minor adjustments and emergency repairs on own initiative and report major defects to the Chief Engineer.
• Operate controls to start, stop, reverse, and regulate the speed of propelling engines on signal from the pilot house.
• Control the operation of heating, refrigeration, and plumbing systems by manipulating necessary winches, throttles, and switches.
• Observe gauges such as pressure gauges, vacuum gauges, fuel oil gauges, tachometers, pyrometers to determine proper functioning of machinery.
