Job summary

Hopkinton High School in Hopkinton, MA is seeking a Varsity Spring Track and Field Assistant Coach for the upcoming season. The role is part-time with a stipend commensurate with experience, and the payment may be contingent on whether the season is officially held.

The coach will work with student-athletes to teach fundamentals, foster teamwork and character, and support safe, enjoyable participation while modeling positive behavior for the team.

Qualifications

• MIAA coaching certificate if first serving as an interscholastic coach after July 1, 2005.
• Bachelor’s degree in related field and previous relevant coaching experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Knowledge of MIAA rules governing athletic activities.
• Ability to motivate student athletes, communicate clearly and effectively, and relate to and work with students of differing athletic abilities.
• Commitment to remain current in knowledge of the sport, and its coaching strategies.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Athletic Director may find appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and conduct practice and coaching sessions; teach sports techniques and strategies.
• Condition athletes for endurance, strength and agility.
• Teach sportsmanship, teamwork and responsibility to the team.
• Supervise coaching during matches and meets.
• Observe safety guidelines and respond to injuries with first aid.
• Manage uniforms, equipment and facilities responsibly.
• Assist Varsity Coach and other duties as assigned.

Job Description

TITLE: Varsity Spring Track and Field Assistant Coach

TYPE OF POSITION:Part-time; Spring sports season; stipend commensurate with experience (range is subject to change: $4,353-$6,530)

NOTE:Please be aware that payment of this stipend may be contingent upon the athletic season being officially held, and, for a partial season, may be prorated as a percentage of the athletic season being officially held.

TheVarsity Spring Track and Field Assistant Coachworks with student-athletes to teach the fundamentals of the sport and the concept of competing as a member of a team, while fostering physical fitness and the continuous development of skills. The coach models exemplary behavior in relations with teammates, opponents, spectators and officials, to foster social, emotional, and physical growth & development and support what is best for the overall character development of the student-athlete. The coach emphasizes the importance of continuous improvement, teamwork, diversity, sportsmanship, pride, and work ethic, while providing the opportunity for a safe, positive and enjoyable experience for the student-athlete.The VarsitySpring Track and Field Assistant Coach reports to the Athletic Director and the Varsity Spring Track and FieldCoach.

DUTIES

• Supervise and conduct practice and coaching sessions. Teach sports techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics. Impart love of the sport to players and develop healthy self-image and confidence;
• Condition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength and agility;
• Teach sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility to one's team;
• Supervise and provide coaching during matches, meets, contests;
• Observe basic safety guidelines. Respond to player injuries with approved first aid;
• Manage uniforms, equipment, and school facilities in a responsible manner;
• Assist Varsity Coach, as needed;
• Other duties, as assigned.
