Job summary

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years minimum experience in Information Technology (and/or related fields), including systems analysis, application delivery, business analysis, or project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and ship functional software applications or technology solutions—whether through formal employment, independent projects, or AI‑assisted development workflows.
  • Strong SQL skills, including complex query development, relational data modeling, data validation, troubleshooting, and interpretation of results for business reporting.
  • Proficiency with AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, Replit, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience managing or coordinating the work of third‑party software vendors or development partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a proven ability to navigate ambiguous or incomplete requirements and translate them into working solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical teams and non‑technical operational audiences.
  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and strong personal accountability for outcomes.
  • Experience in Oil & Gas operations—including upstream production, drilling, or field data management—is strongly preferred and viewed as a meaningful differentiator for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted technology partner to Upstream (Operations) business units, learning their workflows and priorities firsthand, and representing those needs within the IT Department.
  • Envision, design, and deliver custom IT solutions to the Upstream business that deliver measurable value in terms of automation, efficiency, data accuracy, or improved controls.
  • Use AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, Replit) to accelerate development cycles, prototype solutions, and explore innovative approaches to complex business problems.
  • Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries, data models, stored procedures, and database integrations to support application functionality, reporting, and data analysis needs.
  • Use current technology and cloud‑based platforms (such as AWS) to help modernize the Upstream application portfolio, improving reliability, operational efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Oversee all phases of projects from conception through completion—including scope, schedule, and budget—keeping end users engaged through timely and relevant communication.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously using standard project management tools and practices, maintaining clear prioritization and stakeholder alignment throughout.
  • Manage the activities of third‑party software vendors and development partners in the delivery of IT solutions; evaluate vendor proposals, coordinate deliverables, and ensure contractual commitments are met.
  • Translate business requirements and project documents into technical specifications for development by internal or external resources; review and validate delivered solutions against acceptance criteria.
  • Own solutions across their full lifecycle—from requirements gathering and build through deployment, user training, ongoing iteration, and continuous improvement based on operational feedback.
  • Produce clear technical and functional documentation; communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs to both technical teams and non‑technical business stakeholders.
  • Continuously evaluate deployed solutions for performance, usability, and alignment with evolving business needs, recommending and implementing improvements as appropriate.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, AI tooling, development methodologies, and industry trends relevant to enterprise application development and operations technology.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four‑year university or college with a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Project Management, Engineering or related field of study, or relevant experience.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Experience with public cloud technologies is strongly preferred, but not required
  • Certification in Advanced Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), Information Technology Software Management (ITSM).
  • LEAN and/or Six Sigma, preferred, but not required.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, preferred, but not required.
