Job Description

POSITION:2026-2027 Emergency Substitute Teacher

LOCATION:District Wide

Job Description: This position will involve working as a substitute/on-call teacher to assist schools on a program need basis. The positions will be varied, and may include instruction with basic education and disabled students in self-contained and regular education settings, and performing other job-related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Teach lesson plans and instructions as directed by the absent teacher.
  • Maintain a clean, respectful, and orderly classroom, and follow classroom and school procedures as directed by the school.
  • Leave notes for the regular teacher at the end of the teaching day.
  • Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards parents, students, and administrators.
  • Keep records on attendance, accidents, and incidents.
  • Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Ensure the safety of students at all times.
Required Qualifications
  • Must have or the ability to obtain a valid Washington State Teacher’s Certificate or Emergency Substitute Teacher Certificate.
  • Must hold a AA degree or higher or relevant experience may be substituted.
  • Experience working with children and students preferred.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with students, parents/guardians, administrators, and other school staff.
  • Ability to follow and enforce rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
  • Able to pass a background check.

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.
