SPLENDORA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT in Splendora, TX, is seeking a Lead Dispatcher to support transportation operations. You will be the first contact for calls, directing assignments and coordinating routes for bus drivers and vehicles to ensure safe, economical transportation services.

You will manage emergencies and communicate with stakeholders daily. The role requires CDL, 3–5 years bus driving/dispatch experience, and ability to work evenings/weekends as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • CDL Class A or B with P&S endorsements and valid license.
  • Completion of behind-the-wheel training and TDPS 20 hr course.
  • Texas PTA Specialist certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Dispatch drivers and coordinate via telephone or two-way radio.
  • Inform parents, staff and students of changes to bus routes or schedules.
  • Field inquiries and direct to appropriate transportation staff.
  • Maintain daily activity logs and correspondence for transportation.
  • Maintain department files and assist with meetings.

Education

JOB TITLE: Lead Dispatcher

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

Primary Purpose

Support transportation operations by being the first line of contact for all incoming phone calls and directing calls accordingly. Coordinate assignments and schedules of bus drivers, routes and vehicles to ensure safe, efficient and economical transportation services. Manages all transportation related emergency calls including accidents.

Qualifications
Education/Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred but not required
  • Clear and valid Commercial Driver's License-Class A or B with P&S Endorsements
  • Successful completion of behind-the-wheel training
  • Successful completion of 20 hr. Texas Department of Public Safety Certification Course
  • Texas Association for Pupil Transportation Specialist Professional Certification, preferred but not required

  • Demonstrate ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals in a courteous and tactful manner,establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to handle problems and stressful situations tactfully and apply proactive problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to use routing computer software to obtain student transportation information as needed
  • Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents and members of the community
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends as needed
  • Ability to operate a school bus
  • Ability to pass DOT physical examination by an appropriate health professional designated by the district
  • Ability to pass administered drug and alcohol tests
  • Ability to have clearance on criminal history check
  • Ability to have acceptable references
  • Ability to have an acceptable driving record
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications such as: Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc
  • Ability to use Google Drive, Google Docs and Google Spreadsheets
Experience
  • 3 to 5 years experience driving a school bus
  • 2 years experience driving for Splendora ISD
  • Previous dispatch experience
  • Previous secretarial experience
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Dispatch drivers and communicate with them using a telephone or two-radio
  • Notify drivers, parents and school personnel of any changes in a student's bus service, such as an address change, change in pick-up and drop-off location, change in time or bus change
  • Communicate with students, parents, staff and community about their complaints with drivers, buses, routes and safety concerns
  • Communicate with parents or campus staff bus route information such as; bus stop locations, times of pick up and drop off times and route numbers
  • Receive incoming calls, field inquiries and/or direct to appropriate staff
  • Answer general questions and requests that fall within the level of responsibility
  • Welcome all visitors and maintain effective rapport with general public and handle any concerns or complaint in a prompt courteous manner
  • Prepare correspondence, memorandums, requisitions and reports for transportation
  • Maintain physical and electronic department files
  • Perform routine office tasks, including emailing, copying ,printing and scanning documents
  • Participate in meetings
  • Write, schedule and keep daily logs of activity
  • Have established and maintain regular and reliable attendance and punctuality records
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Stay up to date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for professional growth
  • Research district policy, precedent and current practices prior to to taking action
  • Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department and content goals
  • Demonstrate integrity and ethics
  • Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities
  • Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments and meetings
  • Meet task completion deadlines established by director
  • Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators and co-workers
  • Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the Splendora ISD mission, vision, core principles and learner profile are met
  • Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (email, written or verbal)
  • Drive any bus route at anytime needed
  • Drive white fleet bus routes or aide on a special needs route at anytime needed
  • Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned

Tools/Equipment Used:

Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; two-way radio, safety equipment including but not limited to flare, reflective signs and fire extinguishers

Posture:

Frequent standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Motion:

Frequent walking; frequent climbing, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension and overhead reaching; frequent driving.

Lifting

Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.

Environment:

Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration and electrical hazards; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours.

Mental Demands:

Maintain emotional control under stress.

Other Information

The District contributes $330 per month toward the cost of employee-only health insurance, which is $105 more than the state-required amount of $225/month. All employees in this position receive free treatment at any Next Level Urgent Care.
