TITLE: CCS Operations Intern for Carpentry, Furniture, Grounds, General Services, Painting, or Plumbing

FLSA STATUS: Non‑Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS: Current high‑school student 16 years of age or older and enrolled in one of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at CCS.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director/Coordinator of CTE and direct internship supervisor.

JOB GOAL: Perform a variety of activities related to the construction and maintenance of school facilities to enhance the instructional environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Carpentry: Assist a skilled carpenter with general carpentry tasks including rough & finish carpentry, cabinetry, masonry, cement work, portable classroom installation, glazing, floor repair, sheetrock, and installation/repair of bleachers, lockers, ceiling tiles, doors, locks, hardware, venetian blinds, and bathroom partitions. Work in the shop or on projects, supply tools/materials, clean work area, keep safety practices, receive training with handheld tools, observe foreman with power tools, complete all required training, and act as team player and role model.

Furniture: Stock and organize warehouse, assist loading trucks, move furniture to schools, relocate furniture within schools, pick up discarded furniture, work with suppliers to set up facilities, repair furniture, coordinate with other trades, complete training, and exemplify core values.

General Services/Supply: Deliver supply orders, handle deliveries, move office equipment, assist with kitchen equipment, unload trucks, deliver textbooks and other items, maintain a clean vehicle, complete training, and support core values.

Grounds: Observe foreman on truck operations, follow delivery routes, perform trimming, pruning, raking, shoveling, hand digging, ensure PPE, apply safe road practices, assist with minor truck repairs, complete training, and act as team player.

Painter: Perform smoothing surfaces, painting, varnishing, staining, removing old finish, filling holes, cracking joints, covering windows/doors, erecting scaffolding, supply non‑power tools, clean work area, develop skill, complete training, and support core values.

Plumbing: Assist licensed plumber with duties, supply tools/materials, clean area, observe foreman digging trenches and cutting floor, develop plumbing skills through observation, complete training, use handheld tools, no power tools used, observe proper use, and act as model.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Carpentry: Lift ≤15 lbs constantly, ≤25 lbs occasionally, 50‑100 lbs occasionally; stand/walk on even/uneven grade, push/pull, operate non‑power equipment, occasional sitting; steel‑toed shoes required.

Furniture: Lift ≤15 lbs constantly, ≤50 lbs frequently, 112 lbs occasionally; stand/walk, carry, push/pull, climb, lift overhead; steel‑toed shoes required.

General Services/Supply: Finger dexterity, repetitive motions, heavy lifting up to 100 lbs often, 50 lbs frequently, 20 lbs constantly; visual acuity; steel‑toed shoes required.

Grounds: Lift ≤25 lbs constantly, 50 lbs frequently, 80 lbs occasionally, up to 100 lbs overhead; stand/walk on level/uneven terrain; steel‑toed shoes required.

Painter: Lift ≤10 lbs constantly, ≤50 lbs occasionally, 50‑80 lbs occasionally; stand/walk on concrete; pinch; steel‑toed shoes required.

Plumbing: Lift 20 lbs constantly, 50 lbs frequently, 110 lbs occasionally; push/pull up to 120 lbs; stand/ walk level and uneven terrain; steel‑toed shoes required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required.
