Position Summary

The department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses such as: Introductory Viticulture, General Viticulture, Grape Pest & Disease Management, Table Grape & Raisin Production, Organic Viticulture, Digital Viticulture or other courses as needed to fulfill educational goals of current students.

Instructor Responsibilities

Temporary faculty members are responsible for:

• Adhering to and implementing university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
• Preparing, delivering, conducting, proctoring, and grading lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams.
• Ensuring all classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Compensation

The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU salary schedule (Class Code 2358). For Master’s degree holders, the salary range is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Actual monthly salary will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.

Anticipated Semester

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open; positions are filled as needed based on enrollment and funding. The pool remains in place for two academic terms; applicants wishing to remain beyond that must reapply. Current terms:

• Fall 2026: August 19 – December 22, 2026
• Spring 2027: January 15 – May 26, 2027

Required Qualifications

Education: A Master’s degree in Viticulture or Plant Science with an emphasis in Grape Production or a closely related field, earned from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.

Experience

1. Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
2. Commitment to and potential for teaching excellence.
3. Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experiences and evaluations.
2. Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
3. Experience in grape production, including wine, table, and raisin grape production.
4. Experience in organic grape production, grape pests, diseases, and digital viticulture.
5. Experience with post‑harvest aspects.
6. Ability to operate and demonstrate vineyard equipment.
7. Knowledge of preparing students for careers in the wine, table, and raisin grape industry.
