Job description

Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in Enology

Department: Enology

Position: Temporary Lecturer – teach undergraduate courses such as ENOL 105, ENOL 151, ENOL 164, ENOL 166, ENOL 168, or other courses as identified for current students.

Responsibilities

Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2. Instructors prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).

Conditional Appointment

Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the Order of Work provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and the California Faculty Association. Applicants must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States; California State University, Fresno does not sponsor temporary faculty for work visas.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). For Temporary Faculty with a Master's degree, the salary range is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum of this range. Actual monthly salary will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.

Semester Availability

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, with positions filled as needed. The number of positions varies each semester:

• Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
• Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027

Required Qualifications

Education: A Master’s degree in Enology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Science with an emphasis in Enology, or a closely related field.

Experience:

• Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Commitment to and potential for teaching excellence.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior teaching experience and positive teaching evaluations or other evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.
• Experience in wine production, processing, analysis, or evaluation.
• Experience with small‑scale wine‑making practices.
• Ability to operate and demonstrate winery equipment.
• Knowledge of preparing students for careers in the wine industry.
