Job description

Position Overview

The Department of Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education seeks graduate students to apply for Teaching Associate positions. Teaching Associates are responsible for providing classroom instruction. Eligibility is determined by successful TA eligibility, department eligibility, and adequate funding.

Anticipated Appointment Dates
  • Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026;
  • Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Hours / Units per Week
  • 1 unit = 2.66 hours per week.
  • Typical lab range: 1.3–5.2 units.
  • Typical lecture range: 3–6 units.
  • Maximum: 7.5 units.
Job Duties
  • Instruct and manage the classroom.
  • Maintain office hours.
  • Provide classroom and/or laboratory instruction.
  • Assign work to students.
  • Prepare course materials.
  • Administer examinations.
  • Assess student performance, including determining course grades.
  • Assist students outside of class or laboratory hours.
  • Attend meetings scheduled by the faculty for briefings, coordination, and discussion of course content and materials.
  • Participate in distance learning activities.
  • Perform other assignments supportive of university instruction.
Qualifications
  • Admission to the Master’s Program in Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education in good academic standing.
  • Enrollment in at least 6 units for the semester or two courses toward the degree.
  • Demonstrated satisfactory progress toward the degree.
  • Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment and the potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Expertise in a closely related natural science discipline.
  • Evidence or desire for publications in scholarly journals.
