26-27 AY Teaching Associate (TA) – Mechanical Engineering

Work type: Teaching Associate | Location: Fresno | Categories: Unit 11 - UAW - California Alliance of Academic Student Workers, Temporary, Part Time

Position Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks graduate students to serve as Teaching Associates. TAs will provide classroom instruction, prepare materials, and support faculty and students. Eligible candidates must be admitted to the Masters Program and be in good academic standing.

Appointment Dates
  • Fall 2026: August 19–December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027: January 15–May 26, 2027
Hours and Units

Students can work up to 20 hours per week. One unit is equivalent to 2.66 hours per week.

  • Typical laboratory work: 1.3–5.2 units
  • Typical lecture work: 3–6 units
  • Maximum units: 7.5
Job Duties
  • Instruct and manage classroom sessions
  • Create course design and assignment sequences
  • Prepare course materials and activities
  • Assess student writing and performance, including grading
  • Assist students during office hours and by appointment
  • Attend TA orientation at semester start
  • Participate in programmatic assessment procedures
  • Teach beginning mechanical engineering courses (as instructor of record)
  • Maintain office hours
  • Collect data for assessment
Qualifications
  • Admitted to the Masters Program in Mechanical Engineering, in good academic standing
  • Enrolled in at least 6 units for the semester or two courses toward the degree
  • Demonstrated progress toward the degree
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to instruct and evaluate students
  • Commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds
