Job summary

CMHA-CEI in Lansing is seeking a Residential Services aide to support individuals with severe mental illness in a residential or supported living setting. You will assist with personal care, daily living skills, medication management, and community activities, following each resident’s plan of service.

Under supervision, you will document care, participate in team meetings, and maintain required certifications; applicants must have HS diploma, valid Michigan driver’s license, and be able to pass

• Must be able to understand written instructions.
• Ability to communicate both in writing and verbally.
• Must be able to read and follow medication charts.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license and access to reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in personal care and treatment of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
• Implement skill acquisition and stages of change and substance use disorder plans.
• Serve as resource and referral for residents to meet needs.
• Support residents in daily living skills including medication management, personal care, and communication; assist with cleaning, meals, laundry, and de-escalation; maintain documentation and assist with community activities.
• Attend mandatory team meetings and in-service training sessions.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Residential Services Coordinator, Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled, assists in the personal care and treatment of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness residing in a residential setting or supported independent living setting. Candidate is responsible for implementation of skill acquisition, understanding the stages of change and substance use disorders as it relates to each individual’s plan of service, with a goal of assisting individuals to be as independent as possible.Acts as a resource and referral for residents to meet their needs.Typical duties: support mental illness symptoms management, training and assisting residents in daily living skills such as medication management;personal care; interpersonal communication skills; cleaning; meal preparation and laundry; de-escalations skills; maintaining required documentation; and assisting residents in participation in community activities.Attends mandatory team meetings and in-service training sessions.

Requirements

Possession of a High School diploma or G.E.D. is required. Must receive and maintain certification in Department of Community Health Group Home Skill Training. Must be able to understand written instructions. Ability to accurately and effectively communicate both in writing and verbally is required. Must be able to read and follow medication charts. Candidate will provide crisis intervention as needed (Therapeutic Options A & Therapeutic Option B on an Emergency basis) and must be physically able to do lifting and transferring of physically impaired consumers according to approved agency policies/procedures. Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for job related use is required.

Conditional Employment Requirements

Employment offers for this position will be contingent upon the results of a criminal background check (including fingerprinting), a physical exam, and verification of an acceptable Michigan driving record. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.Must be able to pass a physical exam annually.

Salary

$19.85 per hour.

Schedule

Tuesday: 3pm-10pm; Wednesday: 3pm-11pm; Thursday: 3pm-10pm; Friday: 8am-3pm; and Saturday: 3pm-10pm
