Job summary

Responsibilities

• Administer, score and record tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
• Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
• Assist the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material based on student needs.
• Operate and care for classroom equipment used for instructional purposes.
• Assist students to master instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
• Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
• Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher.
• Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Assist with large-group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
• Read to students, listen to them read, and participate in oral communication with students.
• Assist students in the library media center.
• Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work.
• Check and record student attendance.
• Help students with clothing.
• Assist with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
• Assist with wash-up and toilet routines.
• Alert the regular teacher to any problem or special information about a student.
• Serve as the chief information source for substitute teachers.
• Maintain high ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
• Participate in in-service training programs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by Building administrator.

7hours/day; 188 days/school term

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Administer, score and record such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
2. Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
3. Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
4. Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
5. Assist students to master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
6. Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
7. Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
